Combining electronics, ethnographic instrumentation and field recordings,
Of The First Light juxtaposes minimalist industrial dirge with cold,
dark
ambience and resonant drones. “Of the first light” is
a reference to the
Wampanoag tribe (meaning “people of the first light”),
the original
indigenous inhabitants of Sky Burial’s locale, Cape Cod, one
of the first
places in the U.S. to experience sunrise each day. This release
is limited
to 200 copies with letterpress covers by Thumbprint Press.

Sky Burial - Spectrehorse
The angels whose golden light shimmered upon the harmonic strings
and
drones of the first Sky Burial recording have fallen. Their ragged
armies
now trudge through charred forests and blackened landscapes, broken
wings dragging behind them, and they bring doom.
Sky Burial is the drone/ambient project of Michael Page of Fire
In The
Head. Spectrehorse is the follow-up to Sky Burial's acclaimed and
very
limited self- titled debut. A decidedly darker, colder, more distant
and discordant recording than the debut, this disc delivers nine
cyclic dirges of cavernous, dark ambience, dense, droning strings,
dissonant electronics, rumbling analogue synths, and minimalist
percussion.
Spectrehorse was composed using edited field recordings made in
temples
and caves in Laos as well as source material culled from studio
sessions
recorded between 1996 and the present. Although advance listens
to this
recording have elicited comparisons to a diverse range of acts including
Skullflower, Lustmord, Jesu, Final, Zoviet France, Deutsch Nepal,
Double
Leopards, Earth and Sunn O))), Spectrehorse retains a sound that
is uniquely Sky Burial.
The track "Awaking From Someone Else's Dreams" is included
on the "No
Noise" compilation released by Even Stilte records.
A remix of "Smoke Sky Horizon" will appear on the a forthcoming
"Drone
Seasons" compilation released by Bris-Cul Records.
